80% of small businesses fail within the first 5 years. This is a pretty discouraging statistic and if you hear or read this before venturing into your own small business, there’s a pretty good change you’ll set yourself up to join that 80%. Have you ever heard the expression, “Never tell me the odds”? I happen to like it because it’s a good philosophy to follow. When we hear how hard it will be to accomplish something, a lot of us resign ourselves to failure. For instance, you might think “80% of small businesses fail. What makes me think mine will make it?”. You were told the odds, you automatically grouped yourself with the majority (80% of small businesses fail) and decided your business would most likely fail, too. Read the rest of this article here

Common Limiting Beliefs About Money

Money is a complicated subject because society has attached so many meanings to it. Money isn’t just a means of exchange; it has become a status symbol, a measure of power, a means of survival, the impetus of all manner of crime, and the means to save lives and fund wars. With so many meanings attached to money, it should be no surprise that we’ve all picked up negative beliefs about it. Have you ever wondered how many negative beliefs you hold about money? Better yet, have you even considered that you have negative beliefs about money? I personally know several people who told me they had absolutely no negative beliefs concerning money but when I presented them a list, they were amazed at how many they associated with. Beliefs That Can Put The Brakes On Your Love Life

Dating and living single can be tough and if you’re having trouble attracting the right kind of partner or even attracting a date, your beliefs could be putting the brakes on your love life. So many of us have been hurt by past relationships that a part of honestly questions whether or not it’s worth getting involved again. After all, what if it happens again? Nobody wants to be rejected and nobody wants to feel they are alone in the world. It’s a pretty profound dilemma…”Should I put myself out there and risk getting my heart broken again or should I resign myself to a life alone?” Honestly, neither choice sounds too appealing but what you need to examine is why it’s easier to believe that the next relationship will bring heartache like the others than it is to believe that the next one will bring you decades of bliss. Check Out “Thoughts Create Reality”

Those of you who know about the Law of Attraction (featured in the movie The Secret) might want to take a look at a blog called Thoughts Create Reality by Frederick Zappone. Inside, you will find hundreds of articles about the Law of Attraction, how to use it effectively and many of the common mistakes people make while attempting to use LOA. One of the articles I found particularly interesting was The Sad, Sad, Bad, Bad Truth where Frederick explains why, as adults, we tend to become bogged down in our negative feelings.
The article Things Your Parents Never Taught You provides some very interesting insights to natural truths that strike an intuitive chord within. Although you probably were never taught any of these ideas, somehow, deep down, you realize these statements are true on a more universal and spiritual level.
There are so many articles on this blog, you could literally spend all day at Thoughts Create Reality. If you would like to learn more about Law of Attraction, I recommend you give it a look.

The Pictures in Your Words
Posted November 9, 2008 by spiritualexpansionCategories: Uncategorized
Tags: change your life, change your mind, Law of Attraction, limiting beliefs, LOA, power of thought, power of words
The subconscious mind deals in pictures, not words. For instance, if I ask you to think of a tree, you see a picture of a tree in your mind’s eye and not the letters t-r-e-e. Think of a car and you see a picture of a car, think of a house and you see a house… and so on.
Now, the important part of this to understand is that each of these pictures has some type of emotional association to them… negative, positive or neutral. Negative words like war, crime, debt, disease, death, famine etc. conjure up negative images and these negative images trigger a negative feeling within you. Positive words like happy, love, peace, joy, family, etc. conjure up positive images which trigger positive feelings. We also have words that don’t really have images associated with them such as “the”, “as”, “with”, etc. Then we have words that do have images associated but don’t have emotional connections (tree or sidewalk might be examples).
What you need to begin doing is paying attention to the words you use when you think and speak. If you spend a lot of time using negative words, you will end up feeling negative emotions which will cause the Law of Attraction to match you up with more reasons to feel negative.
So let’s look at some examples to make this really clear. If you were to say, “I don’t want to be in debt anymore” what images come to mind? You being in debt, right? And it probably doesn’t feel too good, either. Now let’s see what happens if we switch the idea around and say, “I have more than enough money to pay all my debts”. Now what images come to mind? It’s probably something similar to you having plenty of money and feeling confident and secure…and this image feels much better, doesn’t it?
The key to creating with your thoughts and words is to use ones that generate positive images and feelings. Even though it may be “true” that you are in debt or you aren’t married or don’t have your dream home, etc. by repeating these “truths” and telling the same story over and over, you only reinforce it. To change your circumstances, you have to change your story. Start thinking and speaking about what you want to see happening and resist the urge to complain about how bad things are now. The present is only a temporary point in the play…if you can learn not to keep re-writing the same old script.
Shakespeare said, “All the World’s a stage and the men and women merely players” but I want you to start realizing that you’re not just playing a part in the play…you’re creating it. You are the writer, director, producer and star! If you don’t like the performance, change it. Write a new script with better, more pleasing thoughts and words. Tell the prop people to bring in a new set and the casting director to send you a new leading lady or man. You’re the star and all the “crew members” (the universe and its laws) are here to obey your orders. You just have to know how to talk to them…and now you know.

When Reiki Isn’t Working

Reiki is a wonderful technique that has brought about many amazing changes in my life and the lives of my clients and students but there times when Reiki seems to be completely ineffective, even after multiple sessions. What is going on when Reiki isn’t working?
I’ve noticed over the years that many people think that, because they are Reiki practitioners, they can fix or heal other people. For a while, I held this belief, too. However, I came to notice that no matter how successful my practice was, there were instances where nothing I did seemed to make any difference. Reiki simply wasn’t working. Slowly, I realized that the changes taking place in my clients were not of my doing, nor were they decisions made by the “Reiki Source”. Instead, my experiences were showing me that the client is the one in charge and that he or she determines the level and extent of transformation that occurs.
When Reiki isn’t working, we need to ask ourselves if something might be going on below the surface. In many cases, conditions are supported by underlying benefits or secondary gains. These are belief patterns the client holds that cause him or her to think, on some deep level, having their condition is better than not having it. If the client has a secondary gain that is not addressed, no amount of work you do will provide lasting change. This is a point that I feel all Reiki practitioners must be aware of.
A few examples of secondary gain:
Many of us learn at an early age that we get special attention when we are sick. I have seen more than one instance where a wife had an illness and reveled in the amount of extra attention she was getting because of it. “It’s so nice. My husband takes such good care of me. He brings me breakfast in bed, cleans the house, washes the dishes and checks on me every half hour. I wish he would be like this more often”, she might say.
Another example is a friend of mine who has been a smoker for over twenty years. When I asked her if she would like to quit, she said she yes. I gave her Reiki for a several weeks with no progress at all. Finally, I asked what the downside to giving up smoking might be and she said she would gain weight if she stopped and the weight gain was a big concern for her.
I know someone who was addicted to pain medication after being prescribed pain killers for her migraines over a ten year period. Most of the time, Reiki would lessen or eliminate her headaches but there were times she would get one and no amount of energy work helped. Again, Reiki wasn’t working. It was only after she had gone to the emergency room and gotten more pain medication that she would allow the Reiki to soothe her headache.
I could go on and on but the point I wish to make is that our clients either allow us to help them or prevent us from doing so, based on their willingness to let go of the core reason they have whatever condition they have. As Reiki practitioners, we must recognize that we only assist our clients in changing and nothing we do can force them to go in a direction they don’t wish to go.
Ultimately, it is changing the client’s perception that will enable our work to be beneficial. My personal experience has indicated that releasing limiting beliefs that lead to secondary gains is easier, quicker and more reliable with methods other than Reiki. If you would like to learn more about the methods I prefer, click here.
I hope this article has shed new light on an aspect of the work we do as practitioners and given you some things to consider when you encounter an instance when Reiki isn’t as effective as it usually is.

Re-framing Success
Posted October 18, 2008 by spiritualexpansionCategories: change
Tags: life, perspective, success
Many people think there is a limited amount of success, happiness, money, love, etc. to go around. For instance, if Dr. Becky is successful in her practice, then Dr. James has lost some degree of his potential success to Dr. Becky. However, if Dr. James and Dr. Becky look at the number of doctors practicing in their area and compare that to the population of the city, they will see there are far more patients than either of them can see. If there are 15 doctors practicing in a city with a population of 21,000 and each of the 15 doctors have access to 1,400 patients, which is more than enough to build a thriving practice.
Instead of viewing the success of others as an indication of your impending failure, try the perspective that there is enough in the world for you and everyone else. I know it’s sometimes hard to accept that idea when you don’t have a clear view of just how vast things really are. If you’re single and go out on the town and see happy, loving couples all around you, it’s easy to assume all the great people have been taken and that means you’re doomed to live a life of solitude. If you were to take a look at a local singles website, however, you might be very surprised at how many wonderful singles are in your own backyard.
Believe it or not, someone else’s success in a particular area has no effect on your potential for success, other than to provide encouragement that it can be done. Success is something you can create rather than borrow. Instead of taking someone else’s clients or relationship, you can build your own from a completely different source but the key is in understanding this principle. What you see in front of you isn’t all there is, just like in the examples above.
In the future, try this. Instead of becoming depressed or feeling defeated when you notice someone else that has what you want, smile and say to yourself, “That’s for me! I’m going to have that, too! If they can do it, I can do it.” If you say this or something similar to it with intent behind your words, you will notice a shift in your attitude and you’ll find yourself feeling much more uplifted and optimistic and it is from this state of being you can be creative and find new avenues to your success.

Stress Diminishes Reiki’s Effectiveness

Is stress keeping you from offering your best to your Reiki clients? An experiment conducted by Dr. Gary E. Schwartz and Dr. Beverly Rubik {found in The Energy Healing Experiments by Gary E. Schwartz. Pg. 139} presents evidence to suggest that Reiki practitioners who give sessions while under stress are not providing quality energy until their stress levels are reduced. The experiment involved applying a certain amount of heat to cultures of E. coli bacteria (bacteria found in the human digestive system) until the E. coli colony’s growth had been reduced by 50% due to death or damage to the cells. Fourteen Reiki practitioners were asked to provide sessions to one set of E. coli test tubes over a period of three days, treating a separate set each day. As part of the procedure, they each filled out a standard wellness form every day. There were also matched sets of test tubes to act as a control. If the Reiki proved effective, the treated E. coli samples would show greater growth than the control sample.
Amazingly, almost half of the Reiki treated samples showed a decrease in growth and healing. After pondering the situation for a few days, the possibility of the Reiki practitioner’s emotional state negatively impacting the test occurred to Dr. Schwartz. As he looked over the wellness forms, he found that the E. coli samples showing decreased growth were treated by practitioners that reported high levels of stress that day. It was also noted that those practitioners felt much better after flowing Reiki for fifteen minutes. This prompted Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Rubik to modify the experiment.
The fourteen Reiki practitioners were asked to return for another two days. They filled out the wellness forms, as before, but this time they were to give Reiki to another person for fifteen minutes before treating the E. coli samples. The results were interesting. The overall growth rate for the twenty-eight test tubes (fourteen practitioners times two sessions) showed significant statistical growth in almost three quarters of the samples. When examining the other one quarter that did not grow positively, it was discovered that the practitioners working with those test tubes were significantly more stressed than the others.
This experiment reveals the importance of considering our own health and mental state as Reiki practitioners. It is very easy to get caught up in taking care of others and ignoring our own needs but if we are not balanced, not only do we suffer but our clients do as well. William Lee Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training recommends giving yourself Reiki for a few minutes before every session and the E. coli experiment validates this practice. In the future, take the time to address your own needs before taking care of another’s. You will be of far greater service that way.

Distant Reiki Attunements Do Work
Posted October 10, 2008 by spiritualexpansionCategories: Uncategorized
Tags: attunement, distant, energy, learn, Reiki, teacher
Some Reiki teachers contend that attunements can not be sent from a distance. The most common explanation I have encountered for this is that the teacher must be present to channel the energy for the student. I, however, disagree on this issue. As a Reiki Master Teacher, I have performed numerous distant attunements and all of them have been quite successful. Since I don’t know all the reasons why some say it can’t be done, I can’t address them but I can address why I believe it is possible to send a distant attunement.
When I was training to become a Reiki Teacher, I was taught that the most important ingredient in an attunement is intent, and this holds true of every other aspect of Reiki as well. I learned that when I gave an attunement I was only acting as a channel for the energy and that the attunement would be carried to the student through my intent. This description sounds exactly like a distant Reiki session and I have yet to come across a Reiki Teacher or practitioner of level 2 or higher that disputes the ability to send Reiki from a distance. So the logical question arises–if I am acting as a channel for the Reiki energy during a distant session and it is carried to the client, why couldn’t I act as a channel for a distant attunement and have that energy carried to the student as well? In my experience, this is exactly what happens.
I know the idea of working from a distance sounds quite unusual. After all, how can energy be sent from point to another? My theory on this (I am not a scientist but I have done some reading on this subject) is that since electromagnetic fields extend infinitely into space at the speed of light and thoughts are measurable electromagnetic fields, then thought (intention) is capable of traveling everywhere at the speed of light. [ref. The Energy Healing Experiments by Dr. Gary E Schwartz. Pg. 22, 26]. So now the question arises–if a Reiki session or attunement is traveling everywhere all at once, why doesn’t everyone in the world receive it? One possible explanation is a quantum physics concept known as Wave-Particle Duality. Wave-Particle Duality is the concept that all matter and energy behave like both a wave and a particle. A wave can be thought of as radiant energy and a particle as being matter. They exist on the one hand in states which evolve like waves when they are not observed, and like particles when observed. The key is the observation. So it is possible that when a Reiki practitioner focuses on a single client during a session or a teacher focuses on a student for an attunement, since the observation is on that individual, only that person will see a result. I definitely don’t know for sure that this is how sessions and attunements work over a distance but it it’s one possibility.
I learned in my first Reiki class that Reiki is unlimited and it certainly has shown itself to be that way in my experiments with it. One thing that is very clear to me is that, regardless of the mechanism, my experience and the experiences of many, many other Reiki Teachers show that attunements can definitely be sent over a distance.
