The Greatest Gift
What is the greatest gift you can give someone? A pile of money? A much needed vacation? Maybe a new house or new car?
The greatest gift you can ever give someone is….you. Your beingness is your gift to the world. However, in order to give the greatest gift, you must first purify it.
We all came here to make a unique contribution to the world but the dos and don’ts and shoulds and shouldn’ts of society have diluted the person we originally set out to be. Have you ever wanted to do something but convinced yourself it would be too hard or that people wouldn’t agree with you if you did it? “There’s no way I could ever do that. It would take too much money and time and I don’t have that kind of education or those contacts” or “What would my family and friends think if I did that?”
The main problem is one of identity. Our identity is not formed by names, titles, education, careers, relationships or any other labels we give ourselves. If you ask a person who they are, the first thing they will do is give you their name. Well, that’s what you’re called but it isn’t who you are. Next, they often tell you what they do for a living, which is precisely that…what they do for a living. Again, it isn’t who the person is. Then they often given you relationships: “I’m a mother of 3″ or “I’m so and so’s wife, husband, daughter, son, etc.” Ok, that tells me how many kids you have and who you’re related to. However, I still don’t know who you are. So who are you….REALLY?
What do you find yourself doing over and over again because you just enjoy it? For example, are you the person all your friends come to for advice? If so, maybe counseling of some sort is for you. Do you always seem to have some craft or project in the works? Then you might want to consider selling them. Do you find yourself making up stories in your head or even writing them down? Then maybe you should be an author. Do you love explaining things and catch yourself showing people how to do them? Then teaching is probably right for you. Are you doodling or painting all the time? Maybe you should be an artist. All of these examples represent a person’s true self trying to emerge. Unfortunately, we are taught in this world to suppress and ignore these aspects of ourselves, these gifts, because they’re viewed as a waste of time.
Only when you identify, nurture and develop the real you, can you truly give your all to the world. This is the very reason you’re even here, after all. Take the time to find yourself and then trust that this true, original version of you is destined to succeed. If it weren’t, why would you have those inclinations? For instance, if you happen to be a secretary, did you find yourself naturally taking dictation or answering the phone like the artist naturally draws or paints? Probably not.
Life is, was and never will be about struggle. We aren’t here to fight it out and do our best to merely survive. However, when you ignore the you that you set out to be, life does take on the appearance of a struggle. Why? Because you’re trying to be something you aren’t and that’s always hard to do.
Love yourself, know yourself and be yourself. The world will thank you for it!
Blessings,
J.H.

Love the closing sentence. Thankyou. To add to the discussion, I’d say one of the most valuable gifts one can give is a prayer. Heartwarming: http://prayersforbritney.com
